Bi-i V2 High-Speed Smart Camera

Bi-i v2 High-Speed Smart Camera The Bi-i V2 intelligent camera, whose predecessor won the Product of the Year Award at Vision 2003 in Stuttgart, is an intelligent vision system with ultra high-speed image processing capability. It can capture and process up to 10,000 images of 128x128 pixels in a second. At its core is Cellular Visual Technology (CVT), which combines bio-inspired hardware and software solutions into a flexible and compact computational platform. Bi-i V2 is ideally suited to applications requiring standalone operation and real-time performance on tasks too complex to handle with normal cameras and processors.

Bi-i V2 can be equipped with either one or two sensors. Currently, two types of sensors can be used: a 1.3Mpixel CMOS image sensor, and the ultra-fast ACE16k_v2 focal-plane array sensor processor chip from AnaFocus. The latter can also be configured as a co-processor, focusing its processing power on selected areas of images captured by the CMOS sensor. Powerful image processing operations are executed on the ACE16k_v2 chip while the DSP remains free to run complex algorithms (for example, multi-target tracking, sensor fusion, feature classification, navigation, quality inspection, etc.). Due to the flexibility of the system, other types of sensors can also be integrated with minimal effort.

Key features of the Bi-i V2 smart camera:

  • Standalone operation
  • Optional focal-plane array sensor processor capable of capturing and processing images at up to 10,000 frames per second
  • Grayscale or color high-resolution CMOS sensor
  • Embedded Texas Instruments C6415 fixed-point DSP running at 600 MHz
  • Embedded Texas Instruments C6711 floating-point DSP running at 150 MHz (optional)
  • Embedded Etrax communication processor
  • 100Mbit Ethernet connection, USB ports, RS232, digital I/O.
